It has happened to the best of us. We start to decorate for Christmas and find our outdoor string lights and mini lights to be one large tangles mess! This can be extremely discouraging and can add to the already existing holiday stress and fatigue! So, is there really a way to store mini light and avoid this seemingly inevitable Christmas chaos? There sure is!
One of the easiest ways to avoid tangles mini lights is to purchase small plastic containers or organizational totes. Make sure that each container is only big enough to fit one set of lights, and then roll each string into a neat ring and place in individual containers. This may seem like an investment, and can feel like extra effort, but you’ll be happy you did it when the following Christmas rolls around!
If you are looking for a cheap way to avoid tangled light stings, try to think ahead and keep any Christmastime packaging that may seem helpful. For example, keep the plastic inserts that come with your mini lights boxes and reuse them to package your lights at the end of the year. Or, keep the rolls from your used Christmas wrapping paper and ribbon and run the string of lights per roll or spool.
You should also avoid any unnecessary tangles by not storing any hooks, extension cords, hanging materials, clips and other outdoor decorations within the same container as your mini lights. Not only will this decrease your number of frustrating knots, it will also ensure that your bulbs last longer and are not broken while stored.
Knotted mini lights can seem like a holiday tradition, but not one that is enjoyed by many. Try some of the ideas mentioned above and you can look forward to spending less time undoing a years worth of tangles and more time hanging and enjoying your Christmas mini lights!
