Learn how to get the most from your patio lighting by choosing the right light for the job.

With the arrival of the warmer summer months come many plans to improve and decorate our outdoor space. Many of us are deciding on which size and style of deck or patio we would like while others are contemplating landscaping and the development of new gardens. When planning a new outdoor project there are always many elements to consider, one of the most important being patio lighting.

Patio lighting is important for many reasons. For one it allows us to enjoy our yard in the evening hours without having to worry about visibility or safety. Another reason why patio lighting is important is because it gives us the opportunity to enjoy meals, gatherings and celebrations without being confined to our usual interior surroundings.

Something that many people do not realize is that patio lighting can be easily incorporated into their back yard plans with very little work or cost. For example, small sunken spot lights can be easily imbedded into the surface of a pool patio or wood deck. You could also include an old-fashioned street lamp fixture as part of your patio décor to shed light on either evening parties, or private nightcaps.

Then for those who would like to keep their outdoor space as “green” as possible, solar powered lanterns and lamps are becoming more and more popular. However, solar lanterns do not have to be used as decoration at the edge of the garden. By planning ahead and drilling a few extra holes, you can use solar lanterns as semi-permanent patio lighting fixtures on your deck!

There are times when you want something a little extra. You know, it’s those holidays and events that beg to be celebrated on your patio or deck. A more festive atmosphere is required and the lighting answer is some outdoor string lights in the shape or color appropriate to the celebration. They seem to just give it that little bit extra that makes your guest smile.

There are many different types of patio lighting available, the trick is to pick which lighting fixtures are most suited to your outdoor space. To ensure that your patio lighting choice is the right one, shop around as much as possible or even have a look online to see what other people have done to incorporate patio lighting into their outdoor living area!
